Valentine Votive

This little votive is very easy and it uses a previously used glass votive holder. I love the shape of this one and I also like making it in to something useful instead of throwing it out or in the recycling.
I love recycling glass and I think that polymer clay gives me this option every day, by using bought, spent or exhausted items and making something beautiful out of it.
And Oy would this make a lovely gift for your mother!!! LOL!

White, Olive, and Red Cernit

Clay Blade

Needle tool or needle

Used glass votive holder

2 paper towels or an old towel/rag

Clean the glass by putting it in a warm oven, under 200 degrees F.
When the wax melts, save it to a can or pour it out in the trash.
Take a paper towel and clean out the glass while holding it with an old towel.
I find the labels are easier to get off when the glass is hot.
Clean the glass with glass cleaner or white vinegar.

Condition and pinch off little pieces and roll in to balls that are about 1/2" in diameter.
Then cut some in half with your clay blade so you have some smaller hearts.
Make 14 or 15 hearts, small and large. You may not use them all, but you will have them in case you might want to add more than I have.
A little border of hearts around the top rim would be nice too.

Roll the balls in to little teardrops and then flatten the teardrops between your finger and thumb till it is about 1/4" thick or a little thinner. Use the needle to make an indentation in the middle of the wide part of the flattened teardrop.
Set these aside.
You might want to wash your hands before you condition the green. I didn't but you might.

Mix a 1/4 block of olive with a 1/4 block of Opaque white together until it is one color.
Pinch off little balls about 1/2" in diameter.
Cut some of those in half.

Roll the larger balls in to little coils about 2" long and roll the smaller ones in to smaller coil varying the sizes and lengths.
Pinch one end of the coil in to a point.
With the back of the clay blade make a mark in the middle for a vein.

Place some leaves varying the lengths as you place them on the votive.
Where the shorter ones are, you can add a heart as if it is a flower.
Or even maybe two flowers in one section.

I pull the end with the pinch of the long leaf back a little when I put it on.
Make sure that when you put the hearts on that they are attached to the leaves.
When you put the leaves on make sure that they are touching each other.
If you have a straight sided votive that you are using you may want to use some of the Weldbond or Ultimate glue on the back of the leaves to hold them in place after baking.
Since the leaves wrap the bulge of the glass on this votive, they are less likely to come off.
Bake the whole thing in the oven for 1/2 hour at 275 degrees F and let cool in the oven until you can touch it.

Sky before the Storm

These are pictures from the night before the big storm.
This is one of the most beautiful skies and I have been seeing them for days.
The fronts when they come in bring beautiful skies and maybe threats of rain.
Having painted for a good many years, when I see a sky like this I say "boy, that looks just like a painting"

But what I mean to say is,
This sky right here would make a beautiful painting.
No artist I know has anything on Mother Nature, some are very close though.
We are so blessed in her beauty every day.
We have had very liquid sunshine for days; my laundry room is flooded,
there was a tornado watch today, weird.
I am so glad I took a picture of these, they are not doing too well after slashing rain and winds yesterday and today.

They smell divine.
Stay warm and dry with love in your hearts.

CES, another important thing 2009

Queen Nymph Marie by Ces, 2009

I have a blog sister friend that is one of the most prolific artists and writers I have ever known. She does things in a succinct way. She is as sharp as a tack, loyal, and talented. It seems she never sleeps.
She is a detailed woman that can draw teeny tiny lines that I cannot even see. She even hides things in her drawings and has a secret language that you can see in drawings but might not be able to decipher. This to me is amazing and the planning must be intense.
Her paintings have a freedom and verve that jumps with color, texture, and shape, her drawings are tight, concise, and focused, she touches all sides of the spectrum in her art.
She goes by the moniker of Ces, and the place she resides on the blogs is at “Ces and her dishes”, but it has even been “Ces and her fishes”.
She does love dishes, not really to wash them though, but to admire.
She is married to a Viking and has 2 epsilons.
I have learned so much from this woman, her brilliance drives me to read the dictionary when I talk to her, but I know I don’t have to.
She is jovial, beautiful, and patriotic and just a nice person!
She has done one of the most amazing series of works.
There is a bit of reading and many pictures to look at. I have gathered all of the links for you.
Here is to Ces, a multi-faceted woman, a diamond, and a star in my life.
I am lucky enough to have a place among these wonderful oaks, I have no idea how I got there, but I am grateful. Thank you, dear Ces for your gifts, of which this is only one of many.

Aunia Kahn- sorry this took so long, 2009.

I have to clean up some stuff from last year that got put aside with the holidays and me just not feeling up to par and tired of fighting it. This in no way reduces the value of these things, in fact it raises it. It is powerful enough for me to want to take care of it.

I won a wonderful necklace on the 31 days of Halloween; hosted by Mrs. B’s at Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom you can read Mrs. B’s Blog here:

It is by a talented artist named Aunia Kahn, it is called “Honoring Fatality”

The Limited Edition Giclee Print of 10 is here:

You can read her Bio here:

It is a very interesting read.

Aunia has pieces of all price ranges in her Etsy store and lots of things that talk to me on so many levels. The detail is fabulous and her work speaks volumes.

“Aunia Kahn is also the creator of the Silver Era Tarot deck and the Lowbrow Tarot Project [exhibit, table top book and deck], is a graphic and web designer and owner of Aunia Kahn Designs, as well as musician, vocalist and lyricist in her solo project AfterChain.”
This is Aunia Kahn’s blog:

This is a very talented woman and I am so proud to own one of her pieces.

Thank you so much Aunia!!

Also, thank you so much Mrs. B for all your hard work. I can hardly wait to play again in 2010.

10th giveaway- new decade, new year, new thought, new life, and new approach to art!

I thought this might be fun for the 10th giveaway, it is a chance to win your own angel, made for you, by me, with your specifics and input.
Here is the frame I will be using, she is dated 08, she has been waiting for you!
Want to give it a whirl?
I had a chance last year to make some custom goddesses and I loved the experience and things I learned and realized. I want to do more, they are calling me.
Follow your bliss and the door opens!
You have to be willing to give me some info about you, tell me what you like, what makes your heart sing, what colors do you pick all of the time, what makes you feel good, leave a comment on the blog here under words of wisdom (I use that instead of comments) and wait for her and I to be finished.
Can you do it?? Will you??
Happy New Year my pretties, may it be the best you have ever had.
I will close this drawing on the 28th of January at 6 pm.
