Iron Angels 1

I have been playing with something lately and I am obsessed and wanted to share.  I save my broken watches, I buy watch pieces, I collect small parts, and I love to look at them. I bought some when Amaco used to sell them. I have been doing this for years. I even bought some when my guild did a bulk buy on watch parts, twice. I thought to myself, why am I buying more of these? I have tons of them.
I feel my supply is very small now. How fast things can change. In the blink of an eye I went to a different attitude. I call them Iron angels.

I made this heart in the beginning of 2008
I like it, but????
Until lately I have not done a very good job of incorporating them in to my pieces.

I feel this might have changed a bit.
More to come.

  1. Its steampunk mixed with something!...hmm...steamangels?? Segalpunk? Oh yes definately the last one!

  2. Marie!!!! This is a most excellent obsession! I love it. And I love the idea of Iron Angels. I like strong angels. Fluff is pretty, but I require tough. You are on to something good. Searching for old watches to send! **kissessssss**

  3. Hi Marie!!! oh wow how cool are these Iron are always coming up with the most creative inspiring !!!!

Have a wonderful day and great work MArie!!!

  4. Hey Jo, how are you doing girl?
    Spring springing over there?
Segalpunk??? Is that something a bird does??
    JK, I like it!

  5. Really Deb??? watch parts mmmmmmmm!!! LOL!!!
I love these girls and I am so in to making them now.
The Cernit comes is some in some awesome metallic-y gold-y colors, just perfect for these.
Thank you so much Deb! I am so glad you like them.

  6. Oh thank you so much, Diana.
Sometimes I feel so stuck though.
I just don't see how you come up with so much stuff all of the time.
To me, you are amazing and so prolific. You are the one that is always coming up with the most creative pieces.
Have a wonderful day Diana and thank you again, so much!!

  7. What a terrific idea! I love these Iron Angels and can't wait to see what you'll come up with next.
    Hugs and love,

  8. Oh i really really really LOVE this one soooo much its gorgeous xxx

  9. Thank you so much Angela!
I feel other ideas brewing from this already.
I love how art blooms like that!!

  10. I love this one too Laura, that is why I posted her first, but she is the 3rd in the series. The others are more monochromatic, I love them too, but the red on this one is so dramatic to me.
    Thank you very, very much!!

  11. This is a great idea, Marie. These look well incorporated and I like it a lot! Pretty colors, too.

  12. Thank you so very much Chris! I love her colors too. I love that it is a soft image(angel and flowers) with a hardness(colors and parts), dichotomy in action for me.
I had to make sure it was you behind the hibiscus!!

  13. Hi Sweetie, Wowwwww, Iron Angel's, what a fantastic idea! Strength, power, with time watching over you! I loveeeee this idea and loveeeee your Iron Angels! You're a genius, a awesome Artist and a great friend!
I hope that you have a beautiful rest of your day!
Hugs and much love to you...

  14. I'm all for SegalPunk!!!! I think I could follow that!
Love the heart with the parts....I guess because it is a bit dark and definitely *Anne-Quirky*.
Go with these ideas---we're all Iron Angels when life calls for us to be.♥♥♥
    Take care!

P.S. Manto Fev usually has old watch parts.....they're online. They get a fair amount of my money....sigh......

  15. Thank you so much Bobbi.
"Time watching over you" Bobbi that is great!
What a wonderful description you gave me, do you mind if I use that?? LOL!!
And thank you sweetie, you are good friend too!
Thank you for being my friend!
    Love and hugs.

  16. I love the iron angels - especially the heart done in 2008. Beautiful work!

  17. These are some pretty intriguing pieces. It's amazing the things we can create from broken watches and old relics. I love them! Victorian/Steampunk fun! Theresa

  18. The heart was a lame atempt, even though I really like it. I just wanted something more than and the Iron angels have given me that. I may go back and revisit the hearts now though. I can think of some more ways now to approach them.
The heart just didn't grab me the way the angels did, to get me to want to make more. I think you know what I mean right???
Iron angels must be a sorority at the Hellnback college of life. I know the singe sisters is a leading soroity there.

Oh no, Anne, I can never go back to Manto Fev ever again. Gosh darn you, Anne!!! LOL!
Love and huge hugs my darling!

  19. Thank you so much Annette! I may have to go back now to the hearts again. I keep getting ideas for them now that I did the angels.

  20. You're amazing, Marie! I just love every one of your creative ideas. I hope your Iron Angel will keep you safe "for all TIME". tee hee! :-)

  21. Segalpunk, I like that!!! Oh my, what a great idea to incorporate these little pieces! Hmmmm. I know I have a bunch of old watches around here somewhere. If I find them, I will have to send them your way. :)

  22. What more can i say after so many comments? hahaha! Wonderfull what you've made Marie!

  23. Wow Marie you've done really wonderful things with watch parts... I love this angel/goddess...

I also have a drawer full of old watches!!!

I would love to do a trade with you with Renee in mind!

Love to you this beautiful day.

  24. dont think I have ever seen anything of yours that I did not love.... It is gorgeous...

  25. Thank you Theresa!!! I thought they looked somewhat victorian but was not really sure.
It is amazing what you can do with old discarded things. I love that.

  26. "Safe for all times" is great!!! I may have to use that Debbi!
Thank you so very very much! I am so glad you like her!

  27. I think that just might be punkalicious!! Heeeheeee.
Thanks Bella. People have been doing this for ages with the watch parts. I just never found a way that I liked them with any of my styles or stuff. I just love things in the mini though and it is so fun to finally have my style meet up with the parts so well that I even like it.
If you do have watch parts I would love it Bella!

  28. Half the comments are mine Donna!!;-D heeeheee
It was just perfect what you said Donna, Thank you!

  29. Yay, Pattee a trade it is then!!!
Got any ideas for the watch parts now??
Thank you so much Pattee! I love the Iron angels but I have a new favorite now. I will put it up soon!
Love to you on this gorgeous day!!

  30. Thank you so much Mother Moon!
I am glad you love the Iron Angels.
Like Anne said, We are all Iron Angels when life calls for us to be!

  31. These are very cool-and for more parts, look for broken music boxes-they have neat gears and doodads, and can have them for a

  32. Oh, how very, very, VERY cool this is!! I love it!!! And I love the collection of time pieces. I've never collected anything, really, except books. Maybe I need to start... Hope you are feeling well, dearest Marie!! Love, Silke

  33. I like them very much, both pieces you have pictured here. Great name, too.

  34. Miss with everything you do...these are awesome! Hard times in all our lives have turned us all into some form of an iron angel...these should be iconic of our survival. Sending you big hugs and much love, Beth

  35. They are very tiny parts. How do you handle them, with surgical forceps? Very nice.

I have so many watches. They are all over the places. I used to own more than 50 Swatch watches in the past. I gave them all away. Every time someone said they liked it and if I liked that someone, I gave the watch away. I bought three new ones last year.

  36. marie, this is fascinating and anticipatory. what a creative enterprise! i imagine those watches have stories to tell; how wise of you to honor them in your art.

i'm excited to see what you do...

  37. Marie! I love old watches, too, and I have a collection. :) I keep thinking I am going to incorporate them into a doll, or something! :) I love your Iron Angel. Angels need to be strong to lift us up. Have a great weekend, and don't forget to give Madi a hug from me. :) xoxoxo Pam

  38. I like this direction! With your imagination, I can only imagine where all you will go. I'm with Deb....I like strong angels! Hugs, Lynda

  39. Hi Marie ~ The iron angel looks wonderful and I love the necklace. It's always great when we can incorporate recycled items into art.

    ~ Artful Blessings ~

  40. These are great. Love Iron Angels,
Iron represents STRONG Angels soft, protectors, flowing. Iron Angels are "Strong Angels", that can kick some serious butt!

  41. Thanks Anonymous, That is a fabulous idea, thank you so much for sharing that with all of us.

  42. Thank you so much Silke. I collect dirt too, LOL! And dust bunnies!
I really just like small things. Too cute not to buy.
Small clothes pins, safety pins, writing pens, knives, and anything else that is a smaller version of something. I even like the small cans of soda, silly isn't it?

Thank you Silke, I am doing pretty good. I appreciate you caring.
    Have a great weekend!
    Love and hugs.

  43. Thanks Jan so much!!
I know that some of the angels are copper and silver and golds, but Iron angels just seemed so right, I am glad you like it too.

  44. Well Howdy Miss Beth so glad to see you here.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
You are so sweet Beth, thank you.
They are now iconic for survival, I just love that!!
Sending you huge love and hugs back Beth!

  45. Hey Ces, no I just put the parts on with my fingers and hope for the best with the placement. ;-D
I have a stick that picks up small things, but I never have it with me when I am doing this. LOL! Working with teenie things, no wonder my eyes are so bad.
Now the watch collecting is an obsession, lol, I like all of your watches Ces!;-D
    Love and hugs.

  46. Thank you so much kj. I always wondered what it would be like if inanimates could talk, oh the stories they could tell, eh! Sort of like Emily, but she is very animate.
I love the way they contrast each other in the total image of the Iron angel.
I am excited to see what I do too. I have some little images in my head but the path is still a bit foggy!

  47. I would love to give Madi a hug for you, Pam, maybe two or more. You should play with the parts in your art. I would love to see what you come up with.
Thank you for liking the Iron Angel.
My angels have to be Hercules!! LOL!
    Have a great weekend Pam!
    Love and huge hugs.

  48. I like strong angels too.
I hope I am going in the right direction, because I just have to go this way. It feels pretty good.
    Thank you Lynda.
    Have a great weekend.

  49. Thank you so much!
I am loving that recycled part of this so much JoyceAnn.
It is rewarding that something can be used again.
I like things to last a long time and get my monies worth out of the things I buy. Our society is so disposable, it bothers me sometimes. This makes me feel better. And it also feeds my art needs too!

  50. Hi Lucy's Baby and thanks for the chuckle, I love the idea that Iron Angels can kick some serious butt!
These are wonderful descriptions for these pieces. Maybe that is why the pieces felt so right while I was making them.
    Have a great weekend.

  51. Oh I love that heart and would wear it gladly. I also like your tough angel. Very steamy

  52. They're amazing! And it looks great in here, btw! Love the new look.

I am so glad you stopped by. Please leave your words of wisdom. I look forward to them and I so enjoy reading them all.
