Pearl-exed Heart to go with the spiral extruded tube beads

I showed you how to make the spiral extruded tube beads here and I told you I would put the instructions for the heart up. So here it is.

You will need:

Cernit polymer clay color of your choice
Pearl-ex colors of your choice
needle tool or bugsticker also called a protool
Small glass bead
24 gauge Artistic wire 1" piece
2 rubber stamps of your choice unmounted-Stamp scraps
lace
cardboard
texture plate- I used lava rock from Victoria James
Knitting needle- bigger, mine is about 1/4" in diameter and it is metal
Paper plate
wire cutters

1. Condition the clay. Roll a 1" ball of black Cernit.
Then roll that in to a chubby teardrop.

2. Flatten the rounded end with your thumb and forefinger just a little. Do not smash, just flatten a little.
You want it to look puffy when you are done. I take that back, I like it to look puffy when I am done. You can have your heart anyway you want.
We are going to flatten this a bit with the stamp so it is best to leave it more puffy. No worries though, you can always smash it up and try again.

3. I am using a knitting needle here to make the indentation in the top part of the heart, I hold the pointed part of the heart and roll the knitting needle point from the front to the back. I then with my fingers adjust the lobes of the heart until I like them.





4. With the needle tool you are going to "drill" it in to the bottom of the heart and keep "drilling" until it comes out in between the lobes in the top of the heart. Drilling by rolling the needle tool back and forth between your finger and thumb keeps the needle from sticking.

5. "Drill" the needle tool out of the heart and flip the heart from end to end and place the point of the needle tool in to the hole in between the lobes of the heart and "drill" it to the other end of the heart. Leave the heart on the needle tool like this.

6. Lay the heart on one of the stamps and place the other stamp on the top of the heart.

7. Press the stamp down around the heart gently but firmly.You can even go around the edges a little.
You can even use the palm of your hand to press gently.

8. Pull the stamp off and check it out. If it is not deep enough you may have to do it over again. Roll the heart into a ball again and start from the beginning.

9. Place a very small(very small) amount of Pearl-ex powder on the plate. Some times I just take it out of the lid.
I place my finger in the powder and then rub it on the plate to get rid of clumps and smooth the powder on the end of my finger.
10. Rub the powder in to the heart gently. For the multicolored heart I just add little patches of this color to the heart. I used Interference blue, Interference red, Interference gold, interference violet and interference green. I use a circular motion to apply the powder. I also go over one area and keep rubbing gently to force the powder into the surface of the clay.

11. Keep adding the colors until the heart is covered front and back.

12. Get a small glass bead  and cut a small piece of wire about 1" long and thread the bead on the wire.

13. Place the bead in the middle of the wire and twist the ends together, tight to the bead.

14. With the wire cutters cut off the ends of the wire leaving a 1/2" tail.

15. Bend the twisted wire in to a little hook.

16. Insert the twisted end in to the clay heart. I put mine on the  left hand side of the heart. I leave the heart on the needle tool to make sure I do not put it in to the hole that runs vertically through the heart.
Bake the heart in a preheated 275 degree F. oven for 1/2 hour, shut off the oven and let cool inside until you  cam touch it. All of my baking instructions are for an electric home oven, not a toaster oven.

17. With a flexible silicone texture plate, I lay the heart on the needle tool on top of one side of the texture plate.

18. Fold the other half of the texture plate over the heart and press the texture plate together. You can even do this between your palms.

19. With corrugated cardboard pieces lay one of the pieces of the cardboard down, place the heart on the needle tool on top of the cardboard the way you want the lines to impress. Place the other cardboard over the top of the heart and press them together gently and firmly. Peel them off, tah-dah.

20. Now, with a piece of cotton lace, lay the lace down, place the heart on top of the lace with the needle tool still in it.

21. Place the other end of the lace over the heart and press the lace in to the heart on both sides.

22. With something this flexible you can press it easily around the sides too!

My angels inside and my words of wisdom- update on the 15th giveaway

I am going to need one more day to get all of the entries figured out and counted. It is hard to get things done fast when Madi is getting all 4 canines at once. Plus, I want to re-read everything again.

Surviving the Times

We are not alone, and love is all there is. Everything else is illusion and not supported by the universe, the higher mind, the all that is, or god (Whatever fits your protocol). We signed up for this, we are exactly right where we are supposed to be, and everything is unfolding in its right time. We may have just forgotten we signed up for this beautiful and juicy time.
I feel this so much and yet I have had the hardest time right now remembering that this is true. Under all of the emotion and panic, when I quiet my mind, I find an underlying sense of calm and peace and knowing that IT IS ALL GOOD!!!
We are finding out how resourceful and resilient we truly are.
We are all in this together, reach out and love!
I try not to project too much into the future and just take one moment as it comes, little baby steps.
Choose the positive side and view it. Choose joy!
You can not go back, now is not the way that it was.

New Bead Design for me- Snapshot Beads

I call these Snapshot Beads.

Just a small snapshot of things. This one is the Ocean.

Makin's professional Extruder-M35055

Makin's Clay Core Extruder Adapter-M35098 1mm,2mm, and 3mm size (these will put holes in the tube as you extrude to make beads)

Black Cernit-900-100

Kemper clay slicing blade

Pearl-ex Pigments- I used reflex violet-644-3, aztec gold-658 -3, spring green-685-3, sky blue-647-3

Paper plate

make- up applicator(I use my finger)


Use the square disk that comes with the extruder set. It is also the same disk that we used with the checkerboard cane.

1. Condition the black clay until it is smooth and warm.

2. Roll a coil that is just slightly smaller than the barrel of the extruder.
Load up the barrel.

3. Put the square disk in to the end where the disks go, then add the 1mm or smallest core adaptor, the little peg will go through the square disk and will stick out of the disk when you screw the disk cap on the end of extruder barrel.

Put the cap with the adaptor and the disk on the end of the extruder barrel.

Turn the handle down and extrude the clay. This will be just a but harder with the core adaptor.

Go slowly and consistently.

4. Using the clay blade cut the clay off around the little peg of the adaptor. Cut near the barrel end and turn the barrel as you hold the blade against the peg. Do not press against the peg hard.
Look at this amazing adapter the hole is in the tube YAY!!!
This makes it so easy.
Cut the square bead tube in half.






5. Lay one half of the square tube on your paper plate. Add a tiny bit of Pearl-ex to the plate and rub your finger tip in it to spread out the clumps and cover the end of your finger tip.
Rub on to one side of the outside of the square tube. Rub a little at a time until the one side is covered and then do the other half. Do not put on too heavy of coat of pearl-ex and make sure you gently rub in to the clay when you apply it. By rubbing the powder into the clay you lodge the little particles of powder into the clay, it makes it less likely to rub off.

6. Now do the next color of pearl-ex on both square tube halves. Do not put a lot of powder out on the plate and try to keep it all in one area so you have room to cover all four sides on one plate. Remember to rub your finger on the plate in the powder so you do not have big chunks dropping on the square tube. Oh and do not have a fan blowing on the plate while doing this either. LOL!! Oh and try not to sneeze in the plate. If you get a very small spoon it is nice for putting a small amount of powder on the plate.

7. Do the next side of the tube and the next color of powder.

8. And finally the next color of powder. Sometimes I only use two colors of powder to cover the square tubes. Like gold and the copper. I cover two opposite sides of the square tube with one color (North and south) and then the other opposite sides (East and West) with the other color.

9. Once the tube is covered we are going to twist the tube. Hold one end of the tube with your left hand and roll the other end forward with your right hand, it will twist the square tube. Do not press hard just roll. Remember there is a hole inside the tube. You can also make the twist tight and more twisted or loose and less twisted.

10. Once the tube is twisted, bake on a piece of cardboard in a 275 degree F. pre-heated oven for 30 minutes shut off the oven and let cool a little. Pull out of the oven and while the beads are still warm cut sections with your clay slicing blade. This is easier when the are warm than when completely cool.
If you let the cool completely, heat the oven again and warm up the bead for bit and then cut them when warm. This is also perfect for making the beads ahead of time, storing beads in the long tubes and then cutting them in the sizes you need them for the project you are working on at the time when you work on the project.
