Iron Angels 1

I have been playing with something lately and I am obsessed and wanted to share.  I save my broken watches, I buy watch pieces, I collect small parts, and I love to look at them. I bought some when Amaco used to sell them. I have been doing this for years. I even bought some when my guild did a bulk buy on watch parts, twice. I thought to myself, why am I buying more of these? I have tons of them.
I feel my supply is very small now. How fast things can change. In the blink of an eye I went to a different attitude. I call them Iron angels.

I made this heart in the beginning of 2008
I like it, but????
Until lately I have not done a very good job of incorporating them in to my pieces.

I feel this might have changed a bit.
More to come.

  10. I love this one too Laura, that is why I posted her first, but she is the 3rd in the series. The others are more monochromatic, I love them too, but the red on this one is so dramatic to me.
    Thank you very, very much!!

  11. This is a great idea, Marie. These look well incorporated and I like it a lot! Pretty colors, too.

  12. Thank you so very much Chris! I love her colors too. I love that it is a soft image(angel and flowers) with a hardness(colors and parts), dichotomy in action for me.
I had to make sure it was you behind the hibiscus!!

  18. The heart was a lame atempt, even though I really like it. I just wanted something more than and the Iron angels have given me that. I may go back and revisit the hearts now though. I can think of some more ways now to approach them.
The heart just didn't grab me the way the angels did, to get me to want to make more. I think you know what I mean right???
Iron angels must be a sorority at the Hellnback college of life. I know the singe sisters is a leading soroity there.

Oh no, Anne, I can never go back to Manto Fev ever again. Gosh darn you, Anne!!! LOL!
Love and huge hugs my darling!

Thanks Bella. People have been doing this for ages with the watch parts. I just never found a way that I liked them with any of my styles or stuff. I just love things in the mini though and it is so fun to finally have my style meet up with the parts so well that I even like it.
If you do have watch parts I would love it Bella!

  31. These are very cool-and for more parts, look for broken music boxes-they have neat gears and doodads, and can have them for a song.....lol

  32. Oh, how very, very, VERY cool this is!! I love it!!! And I love the collection of time pieces. I've never collected anything, really, except books. Maybe I need to start... Hope you are feeling well, dearest Marie!! Love, Silke

  33. I like them very much, both pieces you have pictured here. Great name, too.

  34. Miss Marie...as with everything you do...these are awesome! Hard times in all our lives have turned us all into some form of an iron angel...these should be iconic of our survival. Sending you big hugs and much love, Beth

  35. They are very tiny parts. How do you handle them, with surgical forceps? Very nice.

I have so many watches. They are all over the places. I used to own more than 50 Swatch watches in the past. I gave them all away. Every time someone said they liked it and if I liked that someone, I gave the watch away. I bought three new ones last year.

  36. marie, this is fascinating and anticipatory. what a creative enterprise! i imagine those watches have stories to tell; how wise of you to honor them in your art.

i'm excited to see what you do...

  39. Hi Marie ~ The iron angel looks wonderful and I love the necklace. It's always great when we can incorporate recycled items into art.

  40. These are great. Love Iron Angels,
Iron represents STRONG Angels soft, protectors, flowing. Iron Angels are "Strong Angels", that can kick some serious butt!

  41. Thanks Anonymous, That is a fabulous idea, thank you so much for sharing that with all of us.

  42. Thank you so much Silke. I collect dirt too, LOL! And dust bunnies!
I really just like small things. Too cute not to buy.
Small clothes pins, safety pins, writing pens, knives, and anything else that is a smaller version of something. I even like the small cans of soda, silly isn't it?

Thank you Silke, I am doing pretty good. I appreciate you caring.
    Have a great weekend!
    Love and hugs.

  45. Hey Ces, no I just put the parts on with my fingers and hope for the best with the placement. ;-D
I have a stick that picks up small things, but I never have it with me when I am doing this. LOL! Working with teenie things, no wonder my eyes are so bad.
Now the watch collecting is an obsession, lol, I like all of your watches Ces!;-D
    Love and hugs.
    Tsup!

  46. Thank you so much kj. I always wondered what it would be like if inanimates could talk, oh the stories they could tell, eh! Sort of like Emily, but she is very animate.
I love the way they contrast each other in the total image of the Iron angel.
I am excited to see what I do too. I have some little images in my head but the path is still a bit foggy!

  47. I would love to give Madi a hug for you, Pam, maybe two or more. You should play with the parts in your art. I would love to see what you come up with.
Thank you for liking the Iron Angel.
My angels have to be Hercules!! LOL!
    Have a great weekend Pam!
    Love and huge hugs.

  48. I like strong angels too.
I hope I am going in the right direction, because I just have to go this way. It feels pretty good.
    Thank you Lynda.
    Have a great weekend.

  49. Thank you so much!
I am loving that recycled part of this so much JoyceAnn.
It is rewarding that something can be used again.
I like things to last a long time and get my monies worth out of the things I buy. Our society is so disposable, it bothers me sometimes. This makes me feel better. And it also feeds my art needs too!

  50. Hi Lucy's Baby and thanks for the chuckle, I love the idea that Iron Angels can kick some serious butt!
These are wonderful descriptions for these pieces. Maybe that is why the pieces felt so right while I was making them.
    Have a great weekend.
